‘Who is responsible for the real apartheid in the Middle East?’

September 30, 2017

TRUTH BOMB: Joaquín Alexander Maza Martelli, the president of the United Nations Committee for Human Rights was directly challenged in March by Hillel Neuer of Human Rights Watch on the apartheid of Jews in Arab States after chairing a commission statement about the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian citizens in the Occupied territories within Israel. SELF APPOINTED: This was said to the Palestinian representative of the UN Human Rights committee on 25 September by a speaker given a platform by Human Rights Watch, Mosab Hassan Youssef: “‘Where does your legitimacy come from?’ The Palestinian people did not elect you and they did not appoint you to represent them. You are self-appointed and your accountability is not to your own people. This is evidenced by your own total violation of their human rights.

MINORITY REPORT: Hillel Neuer directed these words to the Arab representatives of the UN Human Rights in March of this year: “Once upon a time the Middle East was full of Jews. Algeria had 140,000 Jews. Algeria, where are your Jews? Egypt used to have 75,000 Jews, where are your Jews? Syria had tens of thousands of Jews. Where are your Jews? Iraq, you had 135,000 Jews, where are your Jews? Mr President, where is the real apartheid?

BLAME GAME: If Israel did not exist you would have no one to blame. Take responsibility for the outcome of your own actions. You fan the flames of conflict to maintain your abusive power. Finally, you use this platform to mislead the international community, to mislead the Palestinian society and to believe that is Israel is responsible for the problems you create. – Former Hamas activist Mosab Hassan Youssef.

NOT INVITED: Israel is not represented on the Human Rights committee for the Middle East, despite the fact, says Hillel Neuer of United Nations Watch, that citizens of Israel who are Palestinians have full voting rights and those representing the panel, could not explain what had happened to their Jewish communities, when challenged.

ARAB representatives at the United Nations have been twice publicly challenged in the past six months on their human rights records but appear to have nothing to say back.

From Bournemouth University to staff rooms across Dorset and Somerset, everyone usually has a forthright view on the legitimacy of Palestine and that Israel is the aggressor without question, but this explosive intervention from the opposite camp didn’t get argumentative retractions, only stunned silence.

‘Israel is carrying out ethnic cleansing

The Palestinian representative makes this salvo on this clip that has been circulated on-line by United Nations Watch.

“Israel, the occupying power, continues with its colonial policy and its daily violations. It continues to abuse, to arbitrarily detain, to carry out ethnic cleansing, steal land and natural resources, uproot trees, steal money.”

Muslim nations support Palestine

Similar sentiments were echoed by other representatives from Sudan, Egypt, Iraq, Venezuela, Iran, Pakistan and North Korea.

But in a surprise they completely left most of the Arab representatives at this UN committee shell-shocked, former Hamas activist Mosab Hassan Youssef, speaking for United Nations Watch, made this statement to them, looking at them straight in the eye.

Youssef is the son of Sheikh Hasan Youssef and after converting to Christianity in 2007, he sought asylum in the United States and it was approved after background checks. He had previously worked for the Israeli security services.

“My name is Mosab Hassan Youssef. I grew up in Ramallah as a member of Hamas. I address my words to the Palestinian authority which claims to be the ‘sole legitimate representative’ of the Palestinian people. I ask ‘Where does your legitimacy come from?’ The Palestinian people did not elect you and they did not appoint you to represent them.

‘You don’t care about Palestinians’

“You are self-appointed and your accountability is not to your own people. This is evidenced by your own total violation of their human rights. In fact the Palestinian individual and their human development is the least of your concerns.

‘You torture your political rivals’

“You kidnap Palestinian students and from campus and torture them in your jails. You torture your political rivals. The suffering of the Palestinian people is the outcome of your selfish political interests. You are the greatest enemy of the Palestinian people. If Israel did not exist you would have no one to blame. Take responsibility for the outcome of your own actions.

‘You create problems to stay in power’

“You fan the flames of conflict to maintain your abusive power. Finally, you use this platform to mislead the international community, to mislead the Palestinian society and to believe that is Israel is responsible for the problems you create.”

Six months earlier on 17 March 2017 the same Palestinian official accused the Israeli government of orchestrating genocide and running an apartheid regime, but again they were caught in the headlights by Hillel Neuer of United Nations Watch and they were backed by Sudan, Qatar, Syria, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. They were reporting on a commission on human rights abuses in the Middle East, and the make-up of that committee was entirely Muslim-majority countries. Here is the footage.

‘Everything just said was Orwellian’

Neuer said: “Everything we just heard from the world’s worst abusers of human rights, of women’s rights, of freedom of religion, of the press, of assembly,  of speech, is absolutely false and indeed Orwellian. Israel’s 1.5 million Arabs enjoy full rights to vote and to be elected to the Knesset, they work as doctors and lawyers and serve on the Supreme Court.

‘Where have your country’s Jews gone?’

“I’d like to ask the members of that Commission that commissioned that report from the Arab states we just heard – Egypt, Iraq, and the others. How many Jews live in your countries? How many Jews lived in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Kuwait, Morocco?’s

“Once upon a time the Middle East was full of Jews. Algeria had 140,000 Jews. Algeria, where are your Jews? Egypt used to have 75,000 Jews, where are your Jews? Syria had tens of thousands of Jews, where are your Jews?

‘Where is the real apartheid?’

“Iraq, you had 135,000 Jews, where are your Jews? Mr President, where is the real apartheid?

“Why is there a UN Commission on the Middle East that does not include Israel? From the 1960s and the 1970s they refused to include Israel. Where is the apartheid, Mr President? Mr President, why are we meeting today on an agenda item singling out only one state, the Jewish state, for targeting? Where is the apartheid, Mr President?”
