‘Don’t you dare try to pin the blame on us for Climate Change’

WASTE MATTERS: Two cows from Kingweston area back up the letter from Puresnow from Chard: “We do apologize for the methane we produce but haven’t your scientists told you that this breaks down naturally and is reabsorbed by plants, completing a natural cycle. Because of better breeding we produce more meat and milk than our grandparents did, so fewer cows are needed, hence our carbon footprint as actually decreased.”

A COW from Somerset has written to a local paper asking green lobbyists not to blame her exclusively for climate change.

Idenfying herself as Puresnow – also known as South Somerset farmer Craig Hebditch – she makes awkward references to alternative milk products having to be produced and imported from China and other places to satisfy public demand for a non-dairy and meat based diet.

I found this letter in an exchange on Twitter between a reporter on The Guardian who specializes in environmental issues, George Monbiot, who has been championing to massively decrease the livestock sector and rugby referee and countryside campaigner Nigel Owens MBE.

‘All parts of the industry are lumped together by Greens’

This site is unapologetic in putting the other side of the story on-line and the failure of large sections of the green lobby to make distinctions between sustainable livestock production and corporate agri-business (represented by giants like Syngenta and Monsanto).

According the Grocer, it is claimed almonds (for use in almond milk) tend to be grown in dry areas such as California and it takes 371 litres of water to produce on litre of almond milk and it is alleged that almond growers are using up to 10 per cent of California’s water.

‘Without sustainable farming, world is finished’

In the Tweet attached to the letter that is being used here, Owens said to Monbiot: “A balanced view and understanding sustainable farming is the way forward. Button it. Nice way to have a balanced debate. If sustainable farming becomes extinct then the world is finished. Now what is what is called stupidity to you. Now good day to you.”

Puresnow writes: “As a dairy cow, I feel much maligned by misconceptions concerning my contribution to climate change.

“Plants and trees are nature’s way of dealing with carbon emissions, but this process produces cellulose, a carbohydrate you humans are unable to digest.

“However I love to eat it and convert to beef and dairy which you enjoy as part of your balanced diet.

‘Our methane in fields is part of natural cycle’

“I do apologize for the methane I produce but haven’t your scientists told you that this breaks down naturally and is reabsorbed by plants, completing a natural cycle.

“Because of better breeding I produce more meat and milk than my grandparents did, so fewer cows are needed, hence our carbon footprint as actually decreased.

‘Fossil fuel powers factories processing fake milks’

“I do wish you humans would acknowledge that 80 per cent of greenhouse gases come from the fossil fuel-consuming industries, which include factories producing processed almond, soya and other somewhat artificial drinks masquerading as milk.”

Most, if not all, of the ruralite’s problems come from city people who have zero clue.
