‘It’s dangerous to think for oneself but fine to livestream murders’

August 20, 2021

Andrew Torba of Gab sent an e-mail to many users of network to highlight how Facebook, Twitter and What's App to unwittingly assist in the Taliban's campaign to unleash tyranny on the population and explains the double standard of censoring prominent mainstream conservative voices

LIGHT TOUCH: Facebook, Twitter and What’s App (owned by Facebook) have been listed as three Big Tech platforms which the Taliban have used to co-ordinate their invasion of Afghanistan and the seizure of important cities such as Kabul, Herat and Jalalabad. Although some of them are banned on Facebook, the Taliban spokesman boasts a following of 300,000 on Twitter whilst many conservative, patriotic and libertarian voices in the US and the UK have been deplatformed during the Covid-19 crisis.

BLATANT DISHONESTY: “In times like these it’s “dangerous” to think for yourself. It’s dangerous to speak freely. It’s dangerous to point out that Facebook and Twitter get a free pass on the rampant child exploitation, terrorist groups, live streamed murders, and illegal activity that pervades these platforms.” – Chief executive officer of Gab Andrew Torba on the contradictory treatment of big tech for the Taliban compared to nationalist, libertarian and Christian supporters of Donald Trump.

THE head of a public-funded funded alternative social networking site has accused its mainstream competitors of allowing the Taliban to plan their offensive in Afghanistan and doing nothing to stop them.

What’s App, which is owned by Facebook, has become the de factorcommunication of the jihadists in Afghanistan to spread their propaganda across the country, including Kabul, and to the international community.

‘Taliban spokesman has 300k Twitter followers but Trump is banned’

The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, has 300,000 followers on Twitter whilst Jack Dorsey and his management have been censoring accounts with conservative-leaning opinions or patriotic voices as well as US former president Donald Trump.

In messages allegedly distributed to the residents of Kabul, Afghanistan’s captal city, the group said “we are in charge of security for Kabul,” and the messages listed telephone numbers in various neighbours and for them to report any “irresponsible” behaviour on the part of armed individuals or looters.

It has been widely reported that Taliban leaders used Facebook’s WhatsApp and Twitter to help capture Kabul. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid enjoys free reign on Twitter with an account that has over 300,000 followers.

Facebook’s WhatsApp has become the de facto communication platform of the Taliban, who reportedly used the service to spread propaganda, communicate with residents of Kabul, and share official statements with the world.

‘Taliban use of social media seen as ‘sophisticated’ by Washington Post

In a bizarre article, the Washington Post appeared to praise the militants for their ability to get their message across social media platforms as “sophisticated” and it appeared delighted that there was a public relations firm advising them to “amplify messages across all platforms and create potentially viral images and video snippets – much like corporate and political campaigns do across the world.”

In messages apparently distributed to Kabul residents via the messaging group WhatsApp, the group proclaimed that “we are in charge of security for Kabul.” The messages listed telephone numbers in various neighborhoods that citizens should call if they saw problems such as looting or “irresponsible” behavior on the part of armed individuals.

‘Islamists have a voice but Conservative voices banned’

Meanwhile Twitter and Facebook banned the sitting President of the United States back in January and millions of conservative Christians face shadowbans, deplatforming, and blacklisting at the hands of Big Tech companies. If you are a Christian conservative in the United States of America you are treated worse and have less freedom online than the Taliban.

In an e-mail shared to supporters of Gab, Andrew Torba, it’s chief executive officer, says the destabilization of Afghanistan has been ignored by the The Anti Defamation League (ADL), the Southern Poverty Law Center and other activist groups who have lobbied Facebook, Google, Twitter, hosting providers and payment processors to deplatform Gab and its community.

The activist groups appear to have been silent as the Taliban goes from house to house to find girls of 12 years or older in order for them to used as sexual slaves and when faced with actual misogyny and threats to minorities having proclaimed they have been for years against such practices, they have been strangely silent.

‘Facebook and Twitter host the Taliban, we do not’

Mr Torba said: “Facebook and Twitter are once again getting a pass for the many horrors of humanity that they allow to occur on their platforms, while Gab is demonized and deplatformed for giving a home to political dissidents in the United States and other Western countries.

“Gab doesn’t host the Taliban. When the U.S. government tells us America’s enemies are on the platform, we take action. Facebook and Twitter do not.

“Gab has zero tolerance for threats of violence, terrorist propaganda, and illegal activity. Our community has thousands of group moderators and volunteers who proactivity report and take action against illegal content on our platform.

‘Christians are fed up with Big Tech censorship’

“Gab permits politically incorrect, but fully legal, speech on our platform. The vast majority of the tens of millions of people in our community are normal Christian conservative people who are simply fed up with Big Tech tyranny.

“A small minority of people in our community use ‘offensive’ but legal language that the mainstream press, activist groups, and Big Tech tyrants have painted as “dangerous.” Apparently more dangerous than the Taliban.
In times like these it’s “dangerous” to think for yourself.

“It’s dangerous to speak freely. It’s dangerous to point out that Facebook and Twitter get a free pass on the rampant child exploitation, terrorist groups, live streamed murders, and illegal activity that pervades these platforms.”
