THOUGHT PROVOKING: Libertarian Presidential candidate John McAfee says individuals should have control over their own minds and bodies, and says it’s not the Government’s job to tell us what to think and what to eat and drink.Picture by John McAfee @ Def Con.

STATE GUARDIANS: Former MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, who says that children belong to their wider communities, not their parents.  In Scotland, there are plans for “State guardians” who have been given the same authority as parents. Critics say this kind of control leads to totalitarianism.

LOST GENERATION: The war dead lying here in this war memorial in Northern France from just a century ago fought battles to give us the freedoms we enjoy today. With privacy being under threat as highlighted by John McAfee, is this at risk?

A PHILANTHROPIST and pioneer of anti-virus software claims that while digital technology bestows major benefits, it is being used by western leaders and corporate business to manipulate its users’ thoughts and opinions.

John McAfee is a world-famous computer scientist and activist who set up the first commercial anti-virus software programme and indeed anyone viewing this article may be users of this technology. McAfee is the Libertartian Party candidate running for president of the United States. He is also a qualified yoga instructor.

You may be wondering why I have drawn attention to this interview on an alternative news source and what it has to do with this corner of England which this website talks about. Well, the issues has raised by Mr McAfee in this interview could be speaking to any number of us who feel our privacy and personal choice has diminished and our personal freedom, thought and conscience is being limited.

Mr McAfee claims that those in power become extremely dangerous when they unilaterally decide to become everyone’s parents and their boss instead of being a humble servant.

He said: “You can’t have freedom without privacy, it’s absolutely crucial and people don’t understand that. Because without privacy, the Government knows your every move, where you are, who you are talking to and what you are talking about, and ‘cleaning the streets’ as they might call it would be such a simple thing if they know everything about everybody. We have to have privacy, it is not just a fundamental right, it is a necessity.”

In some circumstances, they are aided and abetted by the media. In Scotland they want to have a “state guardian” alongside every parent in their country and former MSNBC anchor Melissa Harris-Perry, says this in a You Tube clip that has been widely shared.

“We have never invested in public education as we should have and we always have this sort of private notion of children that a kid is yours and totally yours and totally your responsibility.

“We haven’t a collective notion that these are ‘our’ children and we have to break through the private idea that kids belong to their parents and families but kids belong to whole communities. Once it’s everyone’s responsibility and not just the household, then we start making better investments.”

Mr McAfee says that he was certain that the State should get out of people’s lives and let them make their own decisions with the responsibility that goes with, such as parental education, drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes.

Mr McAfee said: “A government that knows all about the populace becomes a dictatorship. This is the ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ of people who want to be dictators. I’m part of the Libertarian Party and we believe that personal freedom and liberty is the prime focus of life.

“Freedom and liberty is the fact that we own our own bodies and our own minds. I can put into my own mind whatever I want if I choose to believe it, even evolution, I can do that. The Government at times has tried to restrict what we can teach our children.

“If I choose to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, that is my business, it is not yours, it is certainly not the Government’s. The Government has become our boss, our mother and our father, instead of our servant, which was our original intent. I don’t need a mother and a father, I’m 70 years old.”

Mr McAfee accuses corporate names like Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Twitter of using their status in using modern technology to acquire the knowledge of their customers to gain control.

He said: “I don’t want to be controlled. It is not just Google, Apple and Amazon , but Facebook and Twitter that are manipulating our emotions. Look at all the fake news from these ‘satire news sites’ – they don’t approach satire whatsoever.

“It is absolute, fabricated nonsense and people on social media are believing it. It is a dangerous cliff-face we are tottering on – all of us in this society. We want to have a Government that totally gets out of your way. End of story.”
